4x4 replacement parts??? [Mar. 11th, 2009|11:43 pm]

[mood |goodgood]

Does anyone know where I can get 4x4 replacement parts? One of my center pieces on my 4x4 broke today and i really dont want to buy a whole new one for $25. (plus i'm pretty emotionally attached to this one.) Cubesmith has them on their site but they are out of stock :(

Also, I just got replacement stickers from cubesmith and put them on my trusty rusty 3x3 today. color shifting green/silver, gold mylar, and chrome red, orance, purple, and blue! Its sooo purdy! Cubesmith.com for anyone who doesn't know about it... amazing place for everything cube! An AMAZING selection of replacement stickers too.

Started to Cube [Apr. 2nd, 2008|04:07 pm]

I started doing the rubik's cube a few months ago, and i just memorized the layer-by-layer algs.

Now I want to become faster at it, does any one have any suggestions?

2x2x2 [May. 27th, 2007|07:22 pm]

Hey I've just got a new 2x2x2 cube and I was just wondering whether anyone's got the full list of algs for the last layer. Right now for LL I just orient corners then use SUNE moves.

[mood |accomplished]

Took a long nap today, and it's 2AM and I'm not tired, so I decided to bust out my cube and take a 10-solve average.

Not only did I beat my personal best twice, but I got an awesome average time as well.

48.19 (personal best), 56.14, 1:01.00, 1:05.73, 51.20, 59.61, 59.17, 51.92, 1:07.06, 51.50, 50.14, 47.97 (personal best AGAIN)

Average: 55.46 seconds!

w0000t! I am now averaging under 1 minute. I'm starting to get much better at my block building.

New Cuber [Mar. 18th, 2007|01:37 pm]

I just got into cubing a couple weeks ago. I use the layer-by-layer method. Average time is a little over 3 minutes. -blush-

My question is about cube maintenance. What is the best way to clean your cube without damaging it, especially down between the grooves? Also, just a few minutes ago I turned one of the faces and it started making a different sound, like gears or springs rubbing together and the face now turns with a little more resistance than before. What is this? How can I fix it?

Any other cube maintenance advice is appreciated. :D

Hi, and a Lube Question [Mar. 17th, 2007|12:15 am]
Hello all,

I've been cubing since near the beginning of last month. After a few days with Petrus, I switched over to a layer-by-layer method. A couple later, I switched again to Fridrich for F2L. A week or two ago, I switched over to 3-look LL (well, I'm in the process of switching over- I only know about half the PLL). My PB is 38 seconds.

Anyway, my cube is an unlubed store-bought one. I went to the local hardware store, but the silicone sprays they had were oil-based; I didn't want to risk it. I went to Home Depot and all they had was WD-40 and other oil-based lubes.

My question is: does anyone know of a good, cheap lube that I can buy online? What about one that most, if not all stores have?

Hey all [Feb. 5th, 2007|09:52 pm]

[music |any damned thing by Placebo]

Hey people.
This community looks a bit dead, which sucks cos cubing is pretty damn interesting.

Intro: cuber, 18, 2 years now, pure F2L, black DIY, PVC stickers from rubiks.com, silicon-based lube.

Fastest single-solve: 12.xx in real life, 11.15 on simulation.
Fastest avg: 20.26 in real life, 15.30 on simulation.

By the way, simulation refers to http://www.ryanheise.com/cube/speed.html, which is like the best cube simulator in the world. For the 3x3x3 anyway.

Anyone really good at Petrus or block-building in general? I've pretty much maxed the algs for F2L and I want to improve my solution by mastering x-cross or maybe just switching to Petrus altogether. It's suppose to take less moves or something right?

My progress on the 20x20x20 MONSTER cubeCollapse )

New to the world. [Jan. 16th, 2007|12:27 am]

So... Been cubing for the past few months and gotten VERY addicted to it. Figured I'd start posting in a rubiks community. Name's Ken, in Sunnyvale CA. I have the 3x3x3, 4x4x4, and 5x5x5... and I got a program from gabbasoft.com that emulates cubes up to 20x20x20.

My records so far are as follows...

3x3x3: 1:18
4x4x4: 5:10
5x5x5: 15:34
6x6x6: 31:45
7x7x7: 1:04:48

Am currently working on a 20x20x20, because after realizing how to do the 6 and 7... I just repeat the same algorithms found in the 4x4x4 and 5x5x5... So...

Work in progress: 20x20x20.Collapse )

Also, I have a new goal... trying to solve the 4x4x4 Rubik's Revenge with less than 200 moves... We'll see how that goes, huh?

EDIT, added shortly after: Just got the 4x4x4 Rubik's Revenge done in 186 moves, yay! ^_^

*sigh* it's impossible [Aug. 31st, 2006|09:56 pm]
Man... I spent so long on this, and then I realize that it's impossible. Well, I kind of finished it anyway, but there's 1 corner out of orientation, 2 centre cubies out of place, and 4 edge cubies also out of place. Pretty pathetic, huh? I'm sure I can make it a bit better, or at least look a bit more like a chessboard, but I really haven't the energy anymore... *yawn*
